Privacy Policy

Recipe Saver by Trewlo · Effective October 22, 2026

The short version
  • We collect what the app needs to work: your sign-in email, the recipes and photos you save, and whether you've subscribed.
  • No ads. No tracking SDKs. No selling or sharing your data for advertising.
  • Photos you import, TikTok captions, and the text of web pages we can't read on your device are sent to Google's Gemini AI to read the recipe. Google's paid API terms say Google doesn't use them to train its models.
  • Delete your account in the app at any time, or email privacy@trewlo.com.

Your payment details are handled by Apple. We never see your card number.

How imports work

  • Recipe websites: most recipe pages are read on your device. If that doesn't work, the page's text is sent to Google's Gemini API to read the recipe (see below). Only the recipe you save is stored.
  • TikTok: we read the video's public caption from TikTok's public embed page, and the caption is sent to Google's Gemini API to read the recipe. We don't log in to TikTok or access your TikTok account.
  • Photos, screenshots and recipe cards: the image is sent to Google's Gemini API to read the text.
  • Google's Gemini API: we send it the images above, TikTok captions, and the text of web pages that can't be read on your device. Google acts as our service provider (data processor). Google's paid Gemini API terms say Google does not use this content or the results to improve its products or train its models, and that Google keeps prompts and responses for a limited period only to detect abuse and meet legal requirements. See the Gemini API Additional Terms.

What we never do

  • We don't show ads.
  • We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • We don't use third-party tracking or analytics SDKs, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
  • We don't use your recipes or photos to train AI models.

Who we share data with

Only the service providers needed to run the app, under contracts that limit their use of your data:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, database and file storage.
  • Google (Gemini API): reading recipes from images you import, TikTok captions and web page text.
  • Apple and RevenueCat: processing and verifying subscriptions.
  • People in your family library: recipes you add to a shared library are visible to its members.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of users. If Trewlo's business is transferred (for example, to a Trewlo company we form), your data would move with it under this policy.

How long we keep data

  • Your account, recipes and photos: kept while your account is active, and deleted within 30 days after you delete your account.
  • Backups: may keep deleted data for up to a further 30 days before it's overwritten.
  • Recipes you shared to a family library: removed when you delete your account. Copies other members saved to their own library stay with them.
  • Photos of recipe cards and screenshots you import: kept with the recipe so you can check it against the original, visible only to you and members of your family library, and deleted when you delete that recipe or your account. Google keeps the copy it reads only for its limited abuse-monitoring period.
  • Problem reports: kept until the issue is fixed, and deleted with your account.
  • Emails you send us: kept as long as needed to help you, then deleted.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and the recipes and photos stored on our servers. Cancelling a subscription is separate. Do that in iOS Settings so Apple stops billing you. You can also email privacy@trewlo.com from the email address on your account and we'll delete it for you.

Children

Recipe Saver is intended for adults and is not directed at children. You must be 18 or older to create an account or join a family library. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email privacy@trewlo.com and we'll delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and stored with our providers' at-rest encryption. It is not end-to-end encrypted, because the family library and reading recipes from images and text need our servers to process it. The app is designed so only you and members of your family library can see your recipes and photos. Access is limited to what's needed to run and support the app. No system is perfectly secure, and we'll notify you as the law requires if a breach affects your data.

Your rights, including California residents

You can ask to access, correct, download or delete your personal information, and we won't treat you differently for asking. If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you these rights:

  • Right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose (described above).
  • Right to delete and right to correct your personal information.
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We don't sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We don't collect sensitive personal information for that purpose.
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

Categories collected in the last 12 months: identifiers (email, user ID, IP address), commercial information (subscription status) and user content (recipes and images). Sources: you, your device and Apple. Purposes: providing the app, security and support. To make a request, email privacy@trewlo.com. We'll verify the request by confirming it comes from your account email, and respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent.

Where data is processed

Recipe Saver is available in the United States. Our providers may process data in the US and other countries where they operate.

Changes to this policy

We'll post changes on this page with a new date, and note significant changes in the app.
